Updates from our emergency relief crew
The safety net that our community has woven over the past weeks has provided solace for so many in a remarkable way. I have truly enjoyed working with our brilliant team to find solutions that are making what we hope is a warm, meaningful impact.
Below is an update to share what emergency relief efforts we have been working on recently. I cannot thank this group of community members enough for volunteering both their time and resources.
Our Emergency Relief – Tahoe/Truckee COVID-19 page continues to function to serve our community.
We have been focused on making free dinner accessible in North Tahoe and Truckee as often as possible.
Due to the generous and amazing support of local restaurant owners, we are able to secure dinner in both Truckee and North Lake Tahoe 5 nights a week.
We will have two locations serving HOT meals to our community members in need Monday – Friday.
You can view our public callout here.
The Sierra Relief Kitchen is also providing meal service every Thursday and Saturday for those in need. The food is available for pickup and/or delivery if needed.
You can learn more about them here.
If you are interested in learning more about these services, please don’t hesitate to call or email us.
Our team is also sponsoring a community art response project piloted by the Tahoe City Downtown Association (TCDA). We will be covering the material costs, with an emphasis on purchasing locally. We are also able to gift participating artists with restaurant gift cards of $100 to enjoy dinner with their families.
Amongst other big-ticket items, such as paying rent for 30 families, we are also focused on helping our community with their day-to-day tasks. For example. We were able to cover the costs of a moving truck for a local cleaning professional and her family who has been forced to downsize due to the impacts of the coronavirus.
One of our awesome team members, Ellis, is coordinating a mask drop off at the Tahoe Luxury Properties office. We are still looking for the best places to hand off those masks, so if you have a bright idea let me know!
We have been continuing to find grocery solutions for families which include donations, pickups, deliveries, and grocery store gift cards.
Generous donations from our team members and donors have allowed us to cover rent costs for a growing number of local families. You can donate to this fund here. We use it to cover rent, cover grocery costs, and for other direct emergency response expenses.
There have been so many individuals who have expressed their desire to volunteer, as well as many contributors offering their generosity in other forms. I am very grateful to be able to work on all these projects, and even more so to be a part of this great community!
